Source Water Protection, the theme of World Tourism Day

With the theme “Tourism and Water: Protecting our Common Future”,World Tourism Day on Sep 27 this year will take place many activities in order to propagate the awareness of protecting water resource.

This year, the archipelago of Maldives is chosen as the main location to organize the celebration by The United Nations World Tourism Organization(UNWTO). There will be a meeting of the experts including officials and entrepreneurs operating in the tourism sector from many countries around the world with water experts to discuss strategies towards ensuring the contribution of tourism in source water protection.
General Secretary of UNWTO, Mr Taleb Rifai said, the tourism industry is one of the largest economic sectors in the world, responsible for creating the conditions for companies and travel policies to ensure in using water resource appropriately. Thank to the stable dominant, the tourism can contribute to the source water protection.
The issue of water resource protection becomes imperative than ever when the world has about 780 million people who don't have condition to access to clean water while the prodigality of water still occurs. 2013 was also chosen as the international year of clean water cooperation, to focus on finding a platform for the nations to promote cooperation in the management and protection of water resource.
