Ba Be Lake was formed over 200 million years ago, located at an altitude of about 145m above sea level. The lake has water surface area of over 650 hectares, nearly 8 kilometers in length, it is covered by limestone mountains ,caves and underground streams. All that things has created a spectacular landscape system. As one of the 100 largest freshwater lake in the world and
located in the center of the Ba Be National Forest so Ba Be Lake has a rich and diverse ecosystem. When exploring Ba Be Lake and adjacent streams and rivers, you can see many fish species in total 106 fish species that were identified here. Ba Be Lake is actually a freshwater lake that has the richest ecosystems in Vietnam.

Ba Be Lake located on Nam Mau village, Ba Be district, Bac Kan province, about 220 kilometers from Hanoi.

Located on limestone mountains - a diverse ecosystem both on water and on land. The lake was recognized as one of the 20 special freshwater lake in the world in need of protection. In late 2012, this place was recognized as a national historic.

Currently, Tay people in Ba Be area have still kept the extremely unique beauty of the traditional culture such as: dressing traditional clothing in daily life, organizing Long tong festival, Xuong dong festival,etc. This is an opportunity for people mountain hamlets and villages gather together to worship God of agriculture bless villagers and to pray a bumper crop next year, healthy people. The festival is often held right next to the lake on the 10th day of the Lunar New Year, it has many exciting activities that attracts tourists such as: catch duck, fighting cow, especially boat race on Ba Be Lake.
