After many reports of foreign visitors, Hanoi planned to work harder to prevent fraud. Committee of Culture, Sport and Tourism of Hanoi city asked the local authority and police to tighten control over the price and the operation of transport companies, hotels and restaurants.
The capital welcomed 5,120,000 passengers in the first quarter of this year, increasing 17% compared with the same period last year, of which 615,000 foreign tourists. However, Fraud is still a major challenge for Vietnam's tourism industry.
Last month, a taxi driver Trung Viet company took nearly 1 million VND (47 USD) of an Australian couple for a 7km trip in Hanoi. He was fined 20 million VND(952USD) and ended employment contract. He apologized and gave money back for that couple.
Although this case was handled, it affected the image of Hanoi. Therefore, the city also proposed stricter penalties for those who fraud foreign tourists and encouraged people report cases to the competent authorities.
CEO of Commercial Corporation (Vinatour), Mr. Trung Viet Dung said travel agents was provided more information about tourism services, price and find ways to improve the quality of services and the professional skills of instructors and managers.
