Being one of six biosphere reserve zone was recognized in Vietnam by UNESCO, Cat Tien National Park has an area of 72,000 hectares. It is situated in the 3 provinces: Lam Dong, Binh Phuoc and Dong Nai. Many people believe that: this is the treasure of nature in Vietnam.
In 1978, this national park was preserved and divided into two areas: Nam Cat Tien and Tay Cat Tien. Cat Loc area in the north of the park was also preserved because there is Java rhinos live. Thanks to the rhino, this park has been concerned from the world community.
One other attraction of Cat Tien forest is the existence of huge flock of gaur with the number of 70-80, they are in danger of extinction due to poaching and losing of shelter because of forest destruction. In 1998, the three zones were merged into national park. Testing Biodiversity most recent (2004) was the release of 38 Thailand's original crocodiles in Bau Sau Lake in the middle of the forest.

Approximately 50% area of Cat Tien is forest, 40% is bamboo forest, 10% is farm. Typical animals: Java rhino, Asian elephant, gaur, Sun bear, Asiatic black bear, wild buffalo, tiger, leopard, clouded leopard, deer,etc. The birds of Cat Tien is also rich and diverse such as: black eagle, white-winged duck, great hornbills,etc.
Cat Tien is the residence of 40 species in the Red Book of the world, and rhino is believed as panacea, it is sold with high prices in the market (approximately $ 20,000 / horn).
