Vietnam Oceanographic Museum(commonly known as Nha Trang Oceanographic Museum - Khanh Hoa province) is a important part of Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography, a marine research facility leading of Vietnam and Southest Asia. Nha Trang Oceanographic Museum was established by Governor General of Indochina in 1923, one of the basis of the first scientific research in Vietnam. Initially, The museum has name "Ho ca hoc vien Nha Trang" ( Nha Trang Aquarium Academy ), with the aim of a museum - library supporting research as the scientific research centers in the world.
In the process of formation and development, along with the Institute of Oceanography, Oceanographic Museum became an independent museum, with a large-scale, more than 20,000 specimens of 4,000 species of marine life and hundreds of species currently being cultured in artificial medium.
The marine life sample of the museum includes species in the East Sea and the adjacent waters of the Pacific Ocean. All are preserved and exhibited with many diverse forms: images, templates and live animals; including many particular samples of extremely rare species. The museum is also exhibit and introduce the natural characteristics and ecosystems of the East Sea and the sea and island areas of Vietnam, along with the introduction of the history of oceanography, the historical research of Institute of Oceanography.
