Anniversary of Hung Vuong is also known as "The Hung Temple Festival" - a feast day of Vietnam, the day for all people come to this country to enjoy the value of peace and the sacrifice of many people with the Hung Kings built nation. The anniversary is celebrated on March 10 in lunar every year in Hung Temple, Viet Tri, Phu Tho. This is the traditional festival of
Vietnamese people with aim to honor and acknowledgment the merit of the Hung Kings.
According to the legend, Lac Long Quan and Au Co is considered as the ancestor of Vietnamese people, the parents of the Hung Kings. Hung Vuong period is a very important phase in the history of Vietnam. It was this period that built a foundation of Vietnamese ethnic - cultural background and tradition of patriotism of Vietnam. Vietnamese people chose March 10 lunar year anniversary and together visited the Hung Temple to remember to source and ancestors of the
Vietnamese people.
There is a Vietnamese saying:
Bầu ơi thương lấy bí cùng,
Tuy rằng khác giống nhưng chung một giàn.
(Meaning: Ethnic groups like winter melon and gourd that usually are grown on the same trellis though they're different species, so that, they must love and help each other).
It is the spirit of unity of
people of Vietnam, saying that Vietnam is a unified country. Vietnamese people have recognized a common ancestor : Lac Long Quan, Au and the Hung Kings, they are not also the ancestors of the family but also the ancestor of a ethnic, a nation.
