At the night of Sep12th, the People's Committee of Hai Phong city held a ceremony to proclaim Buffalo Fighting Festival in Do Son as the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Vietnam. This is one of the activities in a series of events to celebrate National Tourism Year of the Red River Delta - Hai Phong in 2013 .
Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Deputy Chairman of the People's Committee of Hai Phong city confirmed Buffalo Fighting Festival in Do Son, which was appeared nearly 1,000 years ago, in the period of Ly Thanh Tong King. Over the periods of historical vicissitudes, Buffalo Fighting Festival was restored in 1990. So far, after 24 years of continuous organization, the festival is constantly preserved and promoted the values, improved the scale while maintaining the elements of folk cultural values.
The announcement ceremony confirmed the value of the festival playing an important role in the development ,conservation and development of Vietnam's culture. Also on the occasion, Vietnam Folk Cultural Association awarded Folk artist title for artists which have a lot of effort, achievement in the restoration and development the festival.
